In a landmark ruling delivered by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in November 2025, the separatist leader was found guilty on all seven counts of terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Federal Government. The IPOB leader was convicted of all seven counts of terrorism-related charges. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on counts 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6, 20 years on count 3, and five years on count 7.
