The area has reportedly been targeted by missile and drone activity linked to the ongoing conflict.Parishioners were advised not to visit church premises, with officials emphasising the need to prioritise safety and community wellbeing.St Marys Catholic Church also confirmed the cancellation of services, adding that Good Friday mass would instead be streamed online to allow worshippers to participate remotely. The disruptions come during Holy Week, one of the most significant periods in the Christian calendar, leading up to Easter Sunday.Amid the wider conflict, Pope Leo XVI has been engaging with world leaders to push for peace. He held separate phone calls with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, discussing the humanitarian impact of ongoing wars.During his conversation with Herzog, the pope stressed the importance of reopening diplomatic channels to achieve a lasting resolution in the Middle East, while also highlighting the need to protect civilians and uphold international law.In talks with Zelensky, the focus shifted to the ongoing war in Ukraine, with both leaders discussing the urgent need for humanitarian aid and efforts to secure the release of prisoners.
