

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have repelled an attack by suspected armed Fulani bandits on Jebbu Miango community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. Military sources said the incident occurred at about 12:10 a.m. on June 29, 2026 when troops of Sector 3 responded to reports of sporadic gunfire by suspected armed militias in the community. According to the sources, the troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee into the surrounding highlands. A search of the community conducted after the attackers retreated led to the discovery of the body of a 74-year-old resident, identified as Mr Baba Den, who was believed to have been k!lled during the attack. The sources said troops subsequently commenced offensive operations and domination patrols across the area to prevent the attackers from regrouping and to forestall further attacks on the community. The military added that the security situation in the area remained under control, while efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing assailants. Residents have been urged to remain calm and continue to provide credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations in the area.
